I still should be able to open/read the Creo in Solidworks from the workspace. You are correct that only the software the files are originally authored in can check them back into windchill, but that's not the question here. Select File > Save As, and then select Extended. now all of his designs are saved in 2018, but us with 2017 cant open his files unless they are converted to. I know I can export them to a local working directory and edit them using Solidworks but this creates another step that I need to remove from the workflow. After you optimize a 3D model, you can easily export it directly from SOLIDWORKS as a GLB file. our systems engineer took it upon himself to upgrade to 2018 without telling or asking anyone (we work at a small company). Converted the SCAD files to STEP using FreeCAD then made the assembly in SolidWorks 2017-2018 Student Edition. Click Finish on any of the three screens to import the file. In the DXF/DWG Import Wizard, select an import method, and then click Next to access Drawing Layer Mapping and Document Settings. In the Open dialog box, set Files of type to Dxf or Dwg, browse to select a file, and click Open. Files are provided in a standard ZIP archive (.zip), with top-level folder 'SOLIDWORKS Training Files'. I was told by someone that it was possible to open Creo files and edit them using Solidworks and Windchill Workgroup manager, but just not able to check them out to save them. In SOLIDWORKS, click Open (Standard toolbar) or File > Open. Your response I believe to be incorrect, as I currently opened Solidworks files in Creo and currently use them in Creo assemblies from a Windchill workspace with out the need to convert to a neutral format that I have saved to Windchill Common Space using Solidworks/Windchill workgroup Manager.
